Day Six

Update and review.

01-12-2007

Progpower Europe 2007:

The Progpower gig went really well. After "Mountain King, Jon Oliva" was done soundchecking we rearranged the stage for our soundchecks. At 13.45 we kicked off with "Legend of the Hollow". Despite the fact that the day was just starting, Sjiwa was already filling up with an enthousiastic crowd. Yep, we got a great response.
Then we continued with the first song of our upcoming album, entitled "7th sign". Halfway through the song the power went dead. No more sound, no more light. Daan of course continued drumming - he thought the problem would be resolved within seconds. Unfortunately he was wrong, and we had to stop for fifteen minutes.

The curtains closed and the stage was quickly filled with Progpower crew members. The problem was eventually found at the bass amp. This took us about fifteen minutes to find out. We quickly took a new bass amp, which produced a very dull sound at that point. Nick changed his bass guitar, but the curtains were already open and Robbie started with the guitar part of the song at the point where the power went down. Nick had to plugin in his bass guitar, but after about three seconds, the complete band could continue the show. Luckily we managed to regain the drive we had on stage before the power failure so we could complete the rest of the song and the set.

We even had some ideas to release a special Progpower edition of our album, with fifteen minutes of silence in the song '7th Sign' at the point of the power failure... but this would take the duration of the album beyond the maximum length.

The set also contained two fairly long songs: 'The Crypt' and the new 'Inside'. We would have closed our set with 'Age of Technology' but unfortunately we had to take the 15-minute break off our set length. There are a few reviews and pictures on the internet:

Festival info

In no time the supply of albums we took with us was sold out. I'm talking about our previous full-length album 'Eternal Dignity'. The upcomping album is not finished yet, but here is a news update about the progress:

We are one keyboard part away from finishing the recordings of the music. Vocal parts of some songs are still to be recorded - and some lyrics have to be written for the concept of the album to work out. In the past few weeks we've recorded some remaining guitar parts, and... because Daan liked his solo point in 7th Sign a lot, he decided to record a drumsolo for that song. Of course his drum kit is large enough for a drum solo. ... You think? His own newly found company "Liebregts BMW Parts" provided a wheelbarrow full of car parts to drum on. The solo was recorded on: an exhaust pipe, a heat shield, license plates, etc.

Pictures of this will follow soon.

Further more, we are rehearsing new stuff as well as our old songs, so we can play a nice set on our album release party!

We'll keep you updated with more news!

Greets,
Day Six

2007!

24-12-2006

Day Six wishes you Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2007!

Starting the guitar and bass recordings..........

17-12-2006

Bouke Visser from Split Second Sound came to our studio to make a good guitar and bass sound we can use for the recordings. Nick uses his SWR amplifier for recording, and the bass guitar will be recorded with two mics and a DI. The guitar will be recorded with a Diezel amp and two Bogner cabinets. We'll be using four mics to record the guitar parts. Every riff will be recorded five times and we will use three different sounds. So that's going to be a huge job, but it's worth it! Check our studio report, pictures and of course studio movies to get an idea of our new album!

De drumrecordings are finished.

29-11-2006

After two intensive weeks of recording Daan may take a rest. His drum parts for our new album have been finished and he has done a real good job! Possibly we'll unpack our mobile studio sometime to record some percussion made by al sorts of instruments. The next coming weeks we'll be editing the drum parts and prepare us for the bas- and guitar recordings. In our "studioreport" you can read how the recordings went.

A new album!

14-10-2006

After a long period of writing songs we finally our going to begin with the official recordings of our new album. Our new album will contain about 10 songs with a total length of more then 70 minutes. We've talked about several different studios and decided we wanted to record as much as we can ourselves. We got in touch with Jochem Jacobs (Textures) and Bouke Visser from Split Second Sound. With them we are going to record our new album. They'll be taking care of some extra studio material and microphones. They will lplace the mics. and make a good sound so we can record everything ourselves. In the end Jochem will be mixing and mastering the album. But "where" to record the album……………..Well, the parents of Daan gave us two rooms in their house to use for the recordings. Fantastic! The past week we've transformed those two rooms into a recording area and a control room. The next two weeks we'll be using for the drum recordings. On our website we will place a studio report, pictures and possibly also some video footage. So stay tuned!

Day Six signed a French distribution deal!

29-10-2005

A while ago we got in touch with the French record company Musea Records. They were willing to sell our album "Eternal Dignity" trough their online store. A few days afterwards they offered us a distribution deal for the French market because they thought our album deserved even better. So our album will be available in France, November 1st.

To tell you all about this deal and some other news facts we'll be visiting our local radio station "Radio Siris" next Thursday, November 3th. We'll be guests in the rockshow "The Rock Company" with host Jeroen van den Berg. He also did an interview with us in the dressing rooms of 013, Tilburg (15-02-2004). The show starts at 20.00h and you can hear us on the second part of the show.

New album in progress!

02-10-2005

Day Six are busy writing new material at the moment, so the gigs are running low for a while. This doesn't mean we aren't doing any gigs at all, but we're trying to keep it under a limit so we have the time to put thousands of ideas into the new songs. The new album will contain a concept, which you can already hear in the songs of our promo album. We will work on the recordings over the first half of 2006, so we can release it somewhere in the fall of 2006.

Further more we have expanded our own studio (with Pro Tools Digi002). We will use our studio to make pre productions and to record parts of the official album. It is not yet decided who is going to record the album, and in which studio, but we'll keep you updated!

The next two months you can find us in the studio. In February we'll start with the recordings of a Promo-CD in the Harrow studio, Losser. The MCD will contain two new songs with a total length of 17 minutes.
At first the MCD will only be used for promotional purpose. At the moment we're not sure if we're also going to use the recordings for other things. We're very busy with the pre-productions of those songs. Next week we start the recordings of drums and bass in the Harrow studio. In March we'll finish the recordings in the New Road studio, Wijchen.

Day Six signed record deal in USA!

20-11-2004

Last week Day Six signed a record deal with Progman Records, an American record company. Progman Records is a relatively young record company specialized in progressive rock/-metal. Tom Argo, owner and founder of the company was told about the band during the Progpower festival in Atlanta. Soon afterwards contacts were made and conversations resulted in signing the contract for the American market. The album 'Eternal Dignity' will probably be released in the USA before Christmas. The music on the American edition will be unchanged, but parts of the album cover and the booklet have been redesigned, so you can tell the difference between the European and American edition immediately.

Progman Records

And other news: Day Six recently joined 'Shockwave Agency'. Shockwave Agency is a Belgian bookings agency. Other bands who joined the agency are a.o. Epica, Orphanage, Autumn and The Old Dead Tree. The agency, lead by Jean Chermanne, will take care for bookings in Belgium and France in the future. For more information, see www.shockwave-agency.be.

We're looking forward to a great cooperation with these two companies.

In the meantime...

23-08-2004

We're all back from our vacation. In the meantime there happened a lot.
August 8th we did a performance on All American Day, Weert. We had a guest musician on stage. "Our" nephew Gijs van Heugten (2,5 years old) climbed on stage to play along. Mark my words, he's going to be a real rockstar! Check some images.
August 20th we've played at Nirwana's Tuinfeest, Lierop. Here we also had some guests on stage. Dance group "Dance Experience" participated in three songs. Although we were the opener of the festival, lots of people came early to see our show. The reactions were great. Check these images.
And there are 3 new gigs confirmed.
